FAQs

Question 1: What data and information is transferred via the QR code from the smartphone/tablet to the webcam?

Answer: The Wi-Fi network SSID (Service Set Identifier) and the Wi-Fi network password are transferred via the QR code.

Question 2: How many door/window sensors, motion sensors and wireless outlets can I connect to the IP camera?

Answer: You can connect 3 wireless outlets and 64 door/window sensors/motion sensors to the IP camera.

Question 3: How far away can each device be placed from the IP camera?

Answer: The range of each device is: Motion sensors: up to 12m, Wireless outlets: up to 35m, Wireless door/window sensors: up to 20m. To achieve maximum range, make sure each device is in direct line of sight of the IP camera and there are no obstacles between the them.

Question 4: At which frequency do the devices communicate with the IP camera? Can this be changed?

Answer: The devices communicate with the IP camera at 433MHz. You cannot change this.

Question 5: How many users can access the IP camera in total and simultaneously?

Answer: Three users can access the IP camera simultaneously. 10 users can have access to the IP camera.

Question 6: Is communication between the devices and IP camera encrypted? If yes, how?

Answer: Communication between the devices and IP camera is not encrypted. For the devices to communicate with the IP camera, they first need to be connected to the IP camera.

Question 7: Can an unlimited number of a particular type of device be connected to the IP camera? Or is it limited to a maximum number irrespective of the total number of devices to be connected (e. g. 50 door sensors, 10 wireless outlets)?

Answer: You can connect 3 wireless outlets and 64 door/window sensors/motion sensors to the IP camera.

Question 8: Can I also control the IP camera using my PC via my home network?

Answer: Unfortunately not at the moment.

Question 9: What operating system does my smartphone/tablet need to support for me to access the IP camera using an app?

Answer: Supported operating systems: Android version 4.0 and later, iOS version 7 and later.

Question 10: Apart from my Wi-Fi network password, how can I prevent others from gaining unauthorised access to my IP camera? How secure is the smartphone/tablet app? How does the information reach my smartphone if I am not connected to the same network as the IP camera?

Answer: You need to set an additional name and password for each IP camera. This provides additional protection. If you are not connected to the same network as the IP camera, the information is sent over the Internet from your network to SPEEDLINK’s own servers located in Germany. From there, the information is forwarded over the Internet to your smartphone.

Question 11: Roughly how much data is transferred between the smartphone/tablet and IP camera? Does the amount of data change if the devices are on the same network?

Answer: Streaming video to your smartphone requires an upstream data rate of over 50kbit/s. The quality, and as a result the video stream data rate, varies depending on the Internet connection. You can change the quality of the video stream during streaming and reduce the data rate (LD) or increase it (HD).

Question 12: How long is the delay between streaming audio and video from the IP camera to receiving it on the smartphone?

Answer: Depending on the network (internal/external) the delay can be anywhere between 1 millisecond to 4 seconds. This also depends on whether you access the camera via your internal or an external network.

Question 13: I don’t receive push notifications from the SL-HOMECON app on my smartphone or tablet. What do I need to do?

Answer: To receive push notifications, the app needs to run in the background. The first thing you need to do is to restart the app. You can then leave the app again – but make sure you don’t quit it via the app switcher.

Question 14: My camera’s time setting keeps changing by itself. How do I set the time so I don’t need to keep adjusting it?

Answer: If your camera’s time setting keeps changing, proceed as follows: Go to the camera’s live video feed and tap the ‘Settings’ icon followed by ‘Date and Time’. There, set both the current time and the correct time zone.
